The spray on concrete compound is designed for application to raw concrete surfaces containing no previously applied barriers or coatings. Therefore, before the concrete spraying, all existing layers of sealer, coloured sealer, paint and coatings are ground off dust-free using advanced, state of the art machinery. Concrete grinding creates a bare and rough texture to ensure the concrete spraying adheres directly to a raw concrete surface. Skipping this step can result in delamination of the new coating.

1. Mechanically grind off 1-3mm of the concrete surface/ promotes adhesion
2. Cutting and filling structural cracks (no warranty on crack repairs)
3. High-pressure wash the concrete removing remaining dust particles
4. Repair and patch any holes and significant damage
5. Primer the concrete with polymer modifier
6. Trowel on the base coat(s) - fills imperfections
7. Mask up adjacent areas to protect from overspray
8. Spray on primary textured coats x2
9. Spray on any fleck coats x2-4
10. Apply xylene-based sealer coats x2
*There are several additional steps in between those mentioned above. Also, depending on the existing surface, further measures are added or omitted. Read on to find out.
If you have old, outdated pebblecrete or an exposed aggregate driveway or pavement, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it, or you must replace it entirely. We have a solution, spray on concrete! Our spray on concrete system is highly compatible with pebblecrete. The pebblecrete is used as a base to create a wholly new design.
The slurry nature of the concrete resurfacing compound has superior adhesion to pebblecrete because when trowelled on and cured, it takes shape, hardens and clings on the pebbles. Therefore pebblecrete is an ideal base for spray on concrete.
Typically, it takes two trowel coats to cover pebblecrete, so it doesn’t matter what size aggregate you have or what condition the pebblecrete is in; we can adjust the compound’s liquid ratio and apply an additional coat if needed. Once we are satisfied with the coverage of the base coat, then the two textured coats are sprayed, and any extra spray on fleck if desired.
The result? You now have transformed the pebblecrete into a new surface without the headache of replacing it. Transform your pebblecrete into something spectacular!
- Spray on concrete can transform pebblecrete
- Pebblecrete and exposed aggregate are ideal bases for spray on concrete
- Spray on concrete adheres very well to pebblecrete
- Additional materials and trowel coats are needed to cover pebblecrete
Our spray on concrete system can also be applied to existing stencilled concrete. You can have it completely transformed with a new design and colour without ever knowing a pattern was there. Your design options are a new stencil pattern, a spray on fleck, an attractive single colour textured finish or whatever your imagination desires.
Like pebblecrete, stencilled concrete requires two to three trowelled coats of the concrete resurfacing compound before applying the spray on concrete to ensure the previous pattern is covered. These are standard tasks in our advanced, no shortcuts approach.
- Can be covered and hidden with spray on concrete
- Entire new designs are an option
- Existing barriers/sealers are removed
- Additional materials and trowel coats are needed to cover stencilled concrete
Concrete resurfacing stamped concrete is possible with some limitations and obstacles. The fact that stamped concrete is deep and un-level makes it very difficult and infeasible to grind to remove the existing sealer; soda or sandblasting is a better option (unless the sealer has worn away). Also, the resurfacing compound is not designed for thick applications, so trowelling it on deep stamped concrete is risky as it may cause surface cracks. For shallow stamped concrete, this doesn’t apply.
Therefore, unlike pebblecrete and stencilled concrete, the deep stamped impression cannot be wholly hidden and covered. The safer option is to only spray on the resurfacing compound directly on the stamped design without pre-trowelling. The spray on concrete coating will follow the impression and have a thinner and consistent thickness.
There are many attractive, gorgeous designs you can spray on stamped concrete, such as a single colour textured finish, spray on fleck finish, benefiting from all the advantages spray on concrete has to offer.
- Must be sandblasted to remove the sealer
- Trowel coating can cause surface cracks
- It can be sprayed without pre-trowelling
- Designs are spray on fleck or single colour textured finish
